| As all local government agencies are required to prepare for and train to respond to emergencies on a daily basis, the occasion may arise that a given emergency will place a greater strain on what a given agency can respond to in a timely and effective manner. This can be termed as a "disaster". If a disaster is city wide, county-wide or on a regional basis, emergency resources from other areas may not be able to augment in a timely manner to control or effectively manage our incident. We train all of our students to make decisions based upon the theory of "providing the most amount of good for the greatest amount of people!" Keeping this in mind, the Napa Valley CERT program provides free instruction to the residents & workers of Napa County so that they may be able to provide emergency services to themselves, family, neighbors and co-workers to survive the aftermath for 96 hours. The cornerstone of these teachings is based around the recognition, assessment & treatment of minor medical emergencies in a field setting.
